territories and regions.
Institutions in government as well as in private sector,
including
transportation companies, hospitality chains and units, contrived tourism
products, agents, publications etcetera are all represented in PATA,
giving it a singular strength, purpose and effectiveness.
Founded in Honolulu in 1952 as the Pacific Area
Travel Association, it
grew steadily from its headquarters at San Francisco. With increasing
importance of Asian countries, first as destinations and then also as
outbound markets, the “Area” in its name changed to “Asia”
and its
headquarters shifted to Bangkok.
